Hi Timothy, just want to say very nice and easy to follow video about tuning your guitar. I actually have never tuned my guitar by playing an E chord, so that is the next thing that I will have to try as well as master. I have always tuned the low E string to a source and then used either the 5th fret method or harmonic tuning. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Yes pitch pipe could be very helpful if you’re ear is not yet used with that low E sound. I remember during my first days of guitar playing, I used the low E sound of the piano or keyboards to tune in my guitar.

To be honest with you it takes a lot of time for most people to get that perfect tone memorized. If you can get the Low E down of course you can tune the rest of the strings off that low E.
A pitch pipe is very good tool to use over and over again until you get it in your head. The electornic tuner can help too be the pitch pipe is better because you keep hearing that tone.

Timothy, thanks for the nice video on tuning. One question I get asked all the time, though, is how people can learn to “memorize” the tone of the low E or 6th string so that they can start the 5th fret tuning process. I had an uncle that could do this, to pitch, but couldn’t explain how he learned it or memorized it. Any tips on that? Can you do it, or do you typically use a pitch pipe or something to get the process started?

Timothy – Great overview for newbies like me. The videos really make this useable and fun. Afterall if it isn’t fun then learning is going to cease pretty quickly.
